Wind Farm Wöhrden: 7 x Vestas V112 | 3 MW | Hub Height: 94 m

The Wöhrden Wind Farm was established end of 2012 as part of an extensive repowering project. After successful planning, Dirkshof assumed both the technical and commercial operation management of the modern wind turbines.
In place of the former 14 used turbines, we now find erected seven high-performance Vestas V112 wind turbines, each with a rated output of 3 MW and a hub height of 94 meters. One of these turbines is a dedicated “citizen-owned wind turbine” in which numerous residents have invested directly. Within a short period, shareholders began to benefit from stable returns — a successful model that remains in effect today.
To further strengthen local added value, the association Lebendiges Wöhrden (“Vibrant Wöhrden”) was founded by the villagers. The citizens’ wind turbine commits to donating 1% of its annual revenue to the association, which in turn supports local projects and initiatives.
The success story of the citizens’ wind turbine now spans over a decade. Numerous beneficiaries of the funding include:
Despite their relatively young age, three of the turbines will be dismantled in mid-2025 to make room for the expansion of a nearby high-voltage substation. Special lifting tools and custom transport frames were developed specifically to ensure a safe and smooth dismantling process.
However, their story does not end there: the three turbines will be given a second life in Sweden, where they will continue to generate clean energy.
