Direct marketing from our own battery storage system has started
A milestone that we are very proud of: ane.energy from Husum has started the connection from our new battery storage facility at the substation in Reußenkögen for 8 MW/h to its virtual power plant. This marks the start of direct marketing from our own battery storage facility!
The large-scale battery storage system is located in the middle of the Reußenköge community wind farm, one of the largest onshore wind farms in Germany with an installed capacity of over 300 MW. It was planned, built and commissioned by Dirkshof and has now been connected to its virtual power plant by green electricity trader and direct marketer ane.energy.
The storage facility has a capacity of 8 MWh and a usable output of 6.4 MW. Dirk Ketelsen, Managing Director of Dirkshof, is proud: "The construction and operation of the storage facility fits in perfectly with the other innovative large-scale projects that we are implementing here in the region."
Stationary large-scale battery storage systems help to stabilize the electricity grid and reduce peak loads. They are therefore a key pillar for the success of the energy transition. They can also generate additional revenue by being marketed on the electricity market.
ane.energy is responsible for the economical operation of the storage facility in the Reußenkögen. The company provides its trading expertise as a member of the EPEX-Spot exchange and has worked intensively over the past few months to connect the battery storage system to the virtual power plant using a suitable communication interface. All the necessary trading processes have been automated to ensure 24/7 operation.
Initially, the storage system will be cascaded and optimized for the day-ahead and intraday markets. "The bidirectional trading of flexibility is of crucial importance to us," says Ralf Höper, Managing Director of ane.energy. "With increasing volatility in market prices, we have now established another business area with asset-backed strategies."
The balancing energy market will also be important in the future. "Of course, we are also monitoring price developments on the balancing energy market, which is set to make an additional value contribution in future. At present, however, the price signals are competitive on the exchange with optimal operation," says Cord Kaldemeyer from ane.energy, describing further development opportunities.
