Repowered 2.0MW old plant from Reußenkögen becomes showcase pilot project in Spain

For the DemoSATH pilot project, the floating foundation and 2 MW wind turbine were assembled in the port of Bilbao in northern Spain. The platform, including turbine, was towed to the BiMEP test site, located 2 miles (about 3 kilometers) offshore in a water depth of 85 meters.....

The DemoSath floating offshore wind project is located off the coast of Armintza in the port of Bilbao, in northern Spain. The wind turbine was installed in the Biscay Marine Energy Platform (BiMEP) test area in the open sea about 2 km off the coast of Armintza, at a depth of 85 m.

A floating platform made of prestressed concrete with a cylindrical and horizontal hull was used. The floating platform can orient itself according to the wind direction at a single mooring point.
The electricity generated by the DemoSath pilot project during the test phase will be fed into the Spanish power grid from the BiMEP site via underwater cables. The DemoSath floating power plant has been in operation since August2023 for a period of up to two years and is expected to generate enough electricity to power about 2,000 homes while avoiding about 5,100 tons of CO2 per year.

The floating offshore wind project has received £10.50 million ($13.56 million) in funding through grants, equity investments, and the transfer of research and development tax credits.
